YES YOU CAN !!

Succeeding Outside the Traditional Classroom

Many parents are finding themselves in unchartered territory this academic year with their children’s education.  Whether you are doing virtual learning from public school, private school, PODS, Co-Ops, or are navigating out on your own through full time home schooling, , a common theme among parents and students traversing through Home Based Education has been “Overwhelmed.”  I will address some of the common challenges, help calm your fears, and provide you with tools I learned along my 28 year journey to feel more confident, empowered and equipped for moving forward.

  • You Can Do This! Shifting your paradigm surrounding home based education
  • Developing a daily routine that works for your family in an ever-changing environment
  • Personal examples and experiences of what “not” to do
  • Overcoming Self-Sabotage: fears, failures, comparison, and uncertainty
  • Creating Support Systems: You’re not alone!

Emotional Regulation – Keeping your Cool when things Heat up

Anxiety, Angry and Stressful emotions can start to get the best of us when things begin to feel out of control. I will provide helpful tips to keep you regulated when your child is experiencing overwhelm. What is your first response to a meltdown?

Neuroscience researchers can show us through brain imaging what is happening in the brain during painful emotions and have developed strategies to help us regulate difficult emotions by being relationally present with a caring other.

I will be explaining some of this research through techniques such as:

  • Window of Tolerance
  • Validation
  • Attunement
  • Containment
  • Repairing Ruptures

If time allows, we will also discuss Helicopter and Lawnmower Parenting Styles and why it is important to allow space for your child to struggle.

THE SCREENTIME DILEMMA

Parenting Solutions for Managing Screen Time, Social Media, and Gaming

We know that teen depression, anxiety, and mental illness has steadily increased over the last two decades. In this workshop, you will gain an understanding of how overuse of screen time affects your child’s brain and some strategies for problem-solving this dilemma as a family.  Key points will be:

  • Is Screen Addiction real?
  • High Dopamine and Low Dopamine Activities
  • Your Anchor: Core Family Values
  • The Parenting Pyramid: Maintaining a Balance of Love and Boundaries
  • The 50/50 Rule
  • C-A-L-M
