The KY Cards Process

What to expect, step by step

Step 1: Initial Phone Call or Email

Your first step is a brief phone call or email with our Office Manager, Brittany, to understand what you or your child are experiencing and make sure KY Cards is a good fit. This is a low pressure, supportive way to get your questions answered and take the next step.

Step 2: Initial Intake Interview

Your first therapy session focuses on understanding your symptoms and creating a clear, personalized treatment plan. You will leave with clarity about what therapy will focus on and how progress will be measured.

Step 3: Follow-Up Sessions

These active, collaborative sessions are where meaningful change happens through skill building and real world practice. Treatment is time limited and focused on building confidence and independence, not long term reliance on therapy.

Step 4: Booster Sessions

Booster sessions are occasional check ins that help reinforce skills, address new challenges, and maintain progress over time. They support lasting change without restarting full treatment.

Step 5: Life Coaching

After therapy, some clients choose life coaching with our in house coach, Cheryl Pitcher, to continue personal growth and apply skills to daily life. This optional service is designed to complement, not replace, clinical treatment.

What Therapy Is Like and How Long It Lasts

Therapy at KY Cards is focused, collaborative, and time-limited. We specialize in treating anxiety, OCD, and related disorders using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure Therapy, the gold-standard, evidence-based treatments for fear-based conditions.

Rather than open-ended talk therapy, our work is structured and goal-driven. You will always know what you are working on, why it matters, and how it helps you make progress.

Sessions are active and skills-based, with an emphasis on practicing tools that apply to real life. In many cases, treatment includes learning how to respond differently to anxious thoughts, gradually facing feared situations, and building confidence through repetition and practice.

Typical Treatment Length

  • Adults: An average of 8 to 14 sessions
  • Children and Teens: Typically 12 to 20 sessions, depending on age and needs

The goal of therapy is not to eliminate anxiety completely. The goal is to help you respond to it with confidence and flexibility so it no longer controls your life. Treatment is designed to create rapid relief while teaching skills that last long after therapy ends.

For Parents and Families

When treating children and teens, parents are an important part of the process. Our clinicians help families learn how to support progress at home without unintentionally reinforcing anxiety.

This collaborative approach helps young clients build confidence early and build skills that benefit them for years to come.
