Education

Dr. VanMeter earned a BA in psychology from the University of Louisville, where he was also a 4-year student-athlete on the Division-I track & field team (Go Cards)! After completing his undergraduate degree, Dr. VanMeter attended the University of Cincinnati, where he earned his master’s degree in Foundations in Applied Behavior Analysis and his doctorate in School Psychology.

Clinical Experience

Dr. VanMeter completed his APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at the Munroe-Meyer Institute/University of Nebraska Medical Center where his training focused on providing mental health services and behavioral consultation in local public schools. Dr. VanMeter also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Child OCD Program at Emory (COPE) through Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. VanMeter has experience working at both outpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) levels of care.

Sports Experience
Dr. Skyler VanMeter, Ph.D., is a temporarily licensed psychologist whose work with athletes is rooted in both his personal and professional experience. After committing to the NCAA Division-I Track & Field program at the University of Louisville, Dr. VanMeter suffered a progressive and difficult-to-diagnose “sports hernia” that ended his high school career before his senior season. Following months of doctor’s visits and uncertainty about whether he would return to competition, Dr. VanMeter met a specialist that diagnosed and performed surgery for the injury.
Through persistence and the support of his family, teammates, trainers, and coaches at the University of Louisville, Dr. VanMeter went on to compete in six Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Track & Field Championships and regularly competed alongside some of the top performing athletes in the country. Having lived the frustration of injury and personally understanding the mental fortitude required for rehabilitation and competition at the Division-I level, Dr. VanMeter’s work assimilates his firsthand understanding, clinical experience, and sports-focused training under Dr. Kevin Chapman to help athletes break through their own “mental blocks” with the Mental Lock approach.

“With Dr. Chapman’s guidance, knowledge, patience and his well thought out program, I can state that I would recommend Dr. Chapman and his CBT program to anyone suffering from any types of anxiety, depression, panic, and/or OCD symptoms. I have partaken in therapy treatments such as Psychiatry, various medication regiments, and even hypnosis, none of which found to be as successful as the CBT treatment provided by Dr. L. Kevin Chapman. My life feels renewed and I owe it all to Dr. Chapman!”
